Bezienswaardigheden / tips Nashville 2025:

1) Nashville: Voor fans van countrymuziek over de hele wereld is een reis naar Nashville de ultieme pelgrimstocht. Sinds de jaren 20 trekt de stad musici aan die het country genre hebben overgenomen van de 'hillbilly' muziek uit het begin van de 20e eeuw tot de slick Nashville sound van de jaren zestig tot het punk getinte nieuwe country muziek uit de jaren negentig. Nashville heeft vele attracties om je bezig te houden, van de Country Music Hall of Fame en de bekende Grand Ole Opry House tot ruige bluesbars, historische gebouwen en grote sport namen. Hier wonen ook vriendelijke mensen, een levendige universiteitsgemeenschap, uitstekende gebraden kip en een ongeëvenaard assortiment aan souvenirs.

2) The District: De historische 2nd Ave N (zaken centrum) was het centrum van de katoenindustrie in de jaren 1870 en 1880, toen de meeste van de Victoriaanse pakhuizen werden gebouwd. Vandaag de dag is het het hart van de wijk (the District), met winkels, restaurants, ondergrondse saloons en vele nachtclubs. Twee blokken ten westen ligt Printers Alley, dit is een smalle straat met kasseien die bekend staat om zijn nachtleven sinds de jaren 1940. 

3) Country Music Hall of Fame: Het Country Music Hall of Fame en Museum is de plek waar je heel veel te weten komt over Country muziek. Hier vind je vele voorwerpen onder andere de cocktailjurk van Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash's gitaar, Elvis gouden Cadillac en Conway Twitty's jaarboek foto. Hier vind je ook enorme archieven, geschreven exposities over het onstaan van de country muziek en computerschermen om toegang te krijgen tot opnames en foto's van de Country Music Foundation. Vanaf hier kun je ook de Studio B Tour nemen, die je met een bus naar de beroemde Music Row-studio van Radio Corporation of America (RCA's) brengt, waar Elvis "Are You Lonesome Tonight" en Dolly Parton's liedje "I'll will Always Love You is opgenomen. 4) The Grand Ole Opry: Music Valley, een buurt in Nashville, wordt nu gedomineerd door de moderne Grand Ole Opry, waar in het weekend radio- en tv-uitzendingen worden verzorgd. Jaarlijks keert de Opry een paar keer terug naar Ryman, zodat het publiek een glimp kan opvangen van de hoogtijdagen toen country het hele land in zijn greep had. Uiteraard kun je hier optredens bijwonen en met een beetje geluk staat er een bekendheid op het podium. (Voor meer informatie over de Grand Ole Opry raadpleeg mijn website).

5) Johnny Cash Museum: Als je echt een country en western music fanaat bent mag je het Johnny Cash museum niet overslaan. Hier vindt je alles over zijn leven, hoe zijn leven is begonnen en geeindigd. In het museum kun je kleding, hand geschreven brieven en muziek instrumenten bezichtigen die door de jaren heen door Johnny Cash en June Carter zijn gebruikt. Ook kun je zijn hits beluisteren. Het museum is gevestigd 119 3rd Avenue S. Een toegangskaartje kost 25,95 per volwassen. Hou er rekening mee dat er binnen in het museum geen camera flits gebruikt mag worden.

6) Assembly Food Hall: De Food Hall, op de tweede en derde verdieping van 5055 Broadway, werd in juni 2021 officieel geopend en is de thuisbasis van vele lokale restaurants in het centrum van Nashville. Assembly biedt ook vele activiteiten en evenementen voor gezinnen en kinderen van alle leeftijden. Een andere nieuwe toevoeging is de Skydeck op Broadway, één van de belangrijkste uitgaansgelegenheden van Assembly een bar op het grootste dak in het centrum van Nashville. Skydeck organiseert livemuziek, prijsuitreikingen, feesten en thema eventementen voor maximaal 1.800 gasten met uitzicht op Broadway.

7) General Jackson Showboat: General Jackson Showboat biedt vaartochten aan, deze zijn van uiteenlopende aard aan boord van een zogenaamde Mississippistoomboot, met diner en amusement. Zeker de moeite waard. 



Highlights / tips Nashville 2025:

1) Nashville: For country-music fans all over the world, a trip to Nashville is the ultimate pilgrimage. Since the 1920s the city has been attracting musicians who have taken the country genre from the 'hillbilly music' of the early 20th century to the slick 'Nashville sound'of the 1960s to the punk-tinged alt-country of the 1990s. Nashville has many attractions to keep you busy, from the Country Music Hall of Fame and the revered Grand Ole Opry House to rough blues bars, historic buildings and big-name sports. It also has friendly people, a lively university community, excellent fried chicken and an unrivaled assortment of tacky souvenirs.

2) The District: The historic 2nd Ave N business area was the center of the cotton trade in the 1870s and 1880s, when most of the Victorian warehouses were built. Today it's heart of the District, with shops, restaurants, underground saloons and nightclubs. Two blocks west, Printers Alley is a narrow cobblestoned lane known for its nightlife since the 1940s. 

3) Country Music Hall of Fame: The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is the place where you can learn a lot about Country music. See case upon case of artifacts including Patsy's Cline's cocktail gown, Johnny Cash's guitar, Elvis gold Cadillac and Conway Twitty's yearbook picture. There are written exhibits tracing country's roots, computer touch screens to allow access to recordings and photos from the Country Music Foundation's and enormous archives. From here you can also take the Studio B Tour, which shuttles you to Radio Corporation of America's (RCA's) famed Music Row studio, where Elvis recorded "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and Dolly Parton cut "I Will Always Love You". 4) The Grand Ole Opry: Music Valley, a neighborhood in Nashville, is now dominated by the modern Grand Ole Opry, where radio en TV broadcasts are provided on weekends. Every year the Opry returns to Ryman a few times, so that the public can catch a glimpse of the heyday when country had the whole USA in its grip. 5) Johnny Cash Museum: If you really a country and western music fanatic, you should not miss the Johnny Cash museum. Here you will find everything about his life, how his life started and ended. In the museum you can view clothing, handwritten letters and music instruments used by Johnny Cash and June Carter over the years. You can also listen to his hits. The museum is located at 119 3rd Avenue S. An admission ticket costs 25.95 per adult. Please note that flash on your camera is not allowed inside the museum.

6) Assembly Food Hall: The Food Hall, on the second and third floor of 5055 Broadway, officially opened in June 2021 and is home to many local downtown restaurants. Assembly also offers activities and events for families and kids of all ages. Another new addition is the Skydeck on Broadway, one of Assembly's main entertainment venues, a bar on the largest rooftop in downtown Nashville. Skydeck hosts live music, awards, parties and themed events for up to 1,800 guests overlooking Broadway.

7) General Jackson Showboat: General Jackson Showboat offers cruises of various kinds aboard a so-called Mississippi steamboat, with dinner and entertainment. This is definitely worth a visit.

                           

Nashville noemt zichzelf Music City USA en wel vanwege de country en western muziek die in deze stad wordt gemaakt. Ook wordt Nashville wel het Athene van het Zuiden genoemd. Tegenwoordig is Nashville een moderne, bruisende stad en een belangrijk centrum van handel en industrie. Maar het is echter de muziekindustrie die Nashville wereldberoemd heeft gemaakt. In Nashville neemt muziek ongeveer dezelfde plaats in als de film in Hollywood.  
 
Nashville calls itself Music City USA because of the country and western music that is created in this city. Nashville is also known as the Athens of the South. Nowadays, Nashville is a modern, vibrant city and an important center of commerce and industry. However, it is the music industry that has made Nashville world famous. In Nashville music takes the same place as the film in Hollywood.

Elke Amerikaan kent Nashville als de bakermat van de countrymuziek, die artiesten als Johnny Cash en Willy Nelson roem bezorgde en nu nieuwe sterren kent als Garth Brooks en Reba McEntire (afgeschilderd op het schilderij hierboven).

Het muziekleven van Nashville speelt zich vooral af in doorrookte kroegen, waar elke avond jonge talenten op kleine podia staan en een hoed of een emmer rondgaat om hen van een honorarium te voorzien (zie film). 

Nashville's musical life is mostly centered around smoke-filled bars, where young talents standing on small stages every night and a hat or bucket goes around to pay them an honorarium (see film).





Tootsie's Orchid Lounge (ook bekend als Tootsie's World Famous Orchid Lounge) is een Honky Tonk bar. Tootsie's heeft twee podiums waar elke avond lokale talenten optreden. Een aantal vroege beroemde klanten waren Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Mel Tillis, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller en vele andere bekende country zangers. Volgens www.toostsies.net, kreeg Willie Nelson zijn eerste songwriting optreden na het zingen in Tootsie's.

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge (also known as Tootsie's World Famous Orchid Lounge) is a Honky Tonk bar. Tootsie's has two stages that host live local talent each night. Some of its early famous first customers were Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Mel Tillis, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller and numerous others country musicians. According to www.toostsies.net, Willie Nelson received his first songwriting gig after singing at Tootsie's.

Miranda Lambert's (beroemde countryzangeres) opende haar Casa Rosa Tex-Mex Cantina (308 Broadway) met haar grote roze en zwarte deuren in mei 2021. Als je geluk hebt kom je haar misschien hier tegen. (zie film).

Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk & Rock'n'Roll Steakhouse, gelegen op de hoek van 3rd Avenue en Broadway, is de grootste nieuwe honky tonk van Nashville. Met vijf verdiepingen, vier podia en zes bars biedt deze prachtige honky tonk plaats aan bijna tweeduizen mensen (zie film).

Located on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Broadway, Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk & Rock ‘n’ Roll Steakhouse is Nashville’s biggest and baddest new honky tonk! With five floors, four stages, and six bars, this gorgeous honky tonk can accommodate almost two thousand people (see film).





Als je een groot fan bent van Country en Western muziek is een bezoek aan het Johnny Cash museum een absolute aanrader (119 3rd Avenue S). Tijdens de avonduren is 3rd Avenue S een levendige straat met veel live muziek. Om de hoek op 2nd Avenue S zit een geweldige Saloon, de Whiskey River Saloon waar men ook geweldige live muziek heeft. 

If you are a big fan of Country and Western music, a visit to the Johnny Cash museum is an absolute must (119 3rd Avenue S). During the evenings, 3rd Avenue S is a lively street with lots of live music. Around the corner on 2nd Avenue S is a great saloon, the Whiskey River Saloon, which also has great live music.

Fort Nashborough is opgericht in het begin van 1779 in het Franse Lick gebied van de Cumberland Rivier vallei dat later Nashville is geworden.
